Recipes Italian Beer Bread

making beer bread from a box…help!?
so I have a box mix of beer bread (from Tastefully Simple) and I have no beer, no carbonated beverages at all (expect root beer and coke). I want to make an italian bread to go with dinner tonight…do you think I can use just regular liquid? All the mix requires is 12 oz of any carbonated beverage and 3 tbsps butter. I found two recipes for breakfast breads that use buttermilk and orange juice (not together) instead. What about just water if I add herbs to flavor it? Should I use buttermilk? Thanks!
I called my sister, who is a Tastefully Simple rep – she said you really need a carbonated beverage – that is what reacts with the yeast to make the bread rise. She said you could give it a try, but your best bet would be to make a quick dash to the store (even seltzer water works).
