Cheap, yet fancy recipe ideas needed please =]?

Hi, I’m Ash, I’m 14 from England.

I have around £15 to spend on a family meal for Myself, my Step-Dad, Step-Brother (15) and my Mother.

I am in charge of cooking the family meal tomorrow and I am asking if people can suggest some low-cost, yet fancy and delicious meals that I can cook, including a list of ingredients and precise instructions.

Places I can buy from: Somerfield, Co-Op, Local Butchers

We have all the basic equipment and ingredients (flour, butter, salt etc).

Things we don’t like: Fish, Seafood, Pickle, Cucumber, Beetroot, not too keen on butter, Spinach, Aubergine and maybe some more, lol.

Things we like A LOT: Steak, All meats, Chinese Food, Pasta, Potato, Cheese

Please suggest whatever despite these, but preferably without anything on the Don’t Like list. If possible, if you suggest something heavily under-budget, suggest a starter or dessert please! ^_^

Many, Many Thanks in advance,

Ash ^_^

Sweet Potato Quesadilla

2 sweet potatoes (you might call them yams), peeled and grated
1 ½ c grated or finely chopped onion
2 garlic cloves, pressed and roughly chopped
½ tsp dried oregano
1 tsp chili power
2 tsp ground cumin
Salt and ground black pepper to taste
drizzle of extra virgin olive oil or vegetable oil
1 c grated sharp cheddar cheese
Chopped cilantro
8 tortillas (8 to 10 inch)
Tomato salsa
Sour cream

Preheat oven to 450 degrees

Combine sweet potatoes, onion, garlic and spices in a shallow pan. Drizzle with oil and stir to coat the mixture with the oil. Put into oven and roast for about 20 minutes or until sweet potato pieces are soft. Remove from oven.

Spread on-eighth of the filling smoothly on one half of the tortilla and top with 2 tbsp of the cheese and some cilantro. Fold the tortilla over and grill on hot griddle or in a pan on one side until browned, then flip it over and brown the other side. Serve with sour cream and salsa.

Remember, recipes are just suggestions so you are free to add or subtract ingredients to your liking.

Sorry I can’t make the British measurement substitutions for you or the oven mark.

Good for you to be cooking dinner for your family.

Daughter of Heaven: A Memoir with Earthly Recipes

$25.96

A powerful, touching memoir of a ChineseAmerican woman and her Chinese grandmother by an extraordinarily talented author who has drawn comparisons to Amy Tan and Maxine Hong Kingston.Leslie Li belongs to the illustrious Li family of Guilin, China. Her grandfather, Li Zongren, was Chinas first democratically elected vice president, to whom Chiang Kaishek handed over control of the country when he fled to Formosa in 1949. Leslies father was studying in the U.S. where he met and married Leslies Americanborn mother. In 1958, Leslies grandmother Nainai came to live with her sons family in New York, bringing with her a new world of sights, smells, and tastes. Nainais wonderfully exotic new cooking opened Leslies heart and mind to her Chinese heritage and to the world. As Leslie grew, taste became the stronghold of memory, and food the keeper of culture. It was through her grandmothers traditional Chinese cuisine that Leslie bridged the cultural divide in an America where she is a minorityand bridged the growing gap at home between her traditionalist father and her progressive mother. Sprinkled throughout Leslies poignant and moving memoir are recipes from Nainais kitchen that add a delicious dimension to a heartwarming tale.
